SPOKANE, Wash. — Students and teachers at Sacajawea Middle School are headed to California to present the school’s developments in computer science and engineering programs at a conference.
Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is a nonprofit that’s partnered with schools nationwide to provide students and educators with hands-on programs in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science.
According to the Spokane Public School District, Sacajawea Middle School is one of the schools that has benefitted from PLTW programs.
Last year alone, 8th grade students at the school used their engineering expertise to help the Spokane Bomb Squad when they faced challenges with their robot.
The students also helped design props for a local woman’s photography business.

While at the conference, the school will present those experiences and more to an audience of over 800 guests.
“Sacajawea Middle School is a true champion of PLTW’s relevant, engaging approach to learning, teaching, and community engagement,” said PLTW Senior Vice President and Chief Engagement Officer David Dimmett.
The conference takes place from Friday, Jan. 31 to Sunday, Feb. 2 .
