Escanaba High School receives AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award - UpperMichigansSource.com

ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - Escanaba High School has been recognized by the Advanced Placement College Board for their work in closing the gender gap in computer science courses.

They received the AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award. During the 2018-2019 school year, more than 50 percent of students in the AP Computer Science Principles course were female. Out of 20,000 schools that offer AP Courses nationwide, only 818 achieved this number.

The school is happy to see their female students recognized for getting exposure to a historically male-dominated field.

“We’re really honored and excited to have our female population represented that way, in hopes of sending our females on to careers in computer science fields that will help their futures,” said Darci Griebel, Escanaba High School Principal.

Escanaba High School hopes to continue growing their computer-oriented classes, planning to offer a cybersecurity course in the future.
