Schools Flocking To Ohio Statehouse To Promote Computer Science - WOSU

Twenty-six Ohio schools will gather at the Ohio Statehouse on Tuesday for the first-ever Computer Science Advocacy Day.

More than 120 students and 40 teachers will meet with local legislators to promote two policies: One is to call for the creation of a plan for computer science education in Ohio, while the second is to modernize state law for the licensure of new computer science teachers.

During a student showcase, kids will present examples of how they use computer science to help solve problems. That portion of that program goes from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Statehouse Atrium.

According to event co-sponsor The Ohio STEM Learning Network, 63% of school districts in Ohio do not teach high school computer science.

Project Lead the Way, TechCorps, Cleveland State University and Code.org are all co-sponsors of the event.
