Those are just some of the questions we pose on our latest bonus episode of our This Week in the CLE podcast, where we consider the lingering issues from the week’s news. Separately, on this week’s regular episode, the news team at cleveland.com analyzed the news and had vigorous discussions about potential government secrecy built-in to the Sherwin Williams negotiations and wasted money at the Ohio Department of Transportation.
As for the county’s finance department computer, that question comes out of our stories about how the county bungled some property tax bills. The disenfranchisement question comes from the March 17 ballot for Cleveland voters, where they are being asked whether to shrink the City Counil from 17 to 9 members.
Another question in this bonus episode involves how much information taxpayers will get about the process Cleveland and Cuyahoga County are using to negotiate with Sherwin Williams to stay in the city. The question is about the incentives that will bhe offered.
We also raise the question about whether Juvenile Court and state juvenile corrections officials are doing enough to help delinquents once they get into the system and before they become violent. Cuyahoga County has seen a spate of violent acts by youths.
And our final question is about whether Ohio legislators ultimately will drop their resistance to doing something other states have done to raise a lot of extra money, now that those states are seeing the money flowing into their coffers.
