Stamford man faces extradition for allegedly stealing computer at airport security - Greenwich Time

STAMFORD — A 68-year-old retired Stamford man is facing extradition for allegedly taking someone’s computer while going through security at a Florida airport.

William Bachmann, of Shippan Avenue, was held in lieu of a $25,000 court-appearance bond and sent to court Thursday morning for arraignment.

According to Florida authorities, Bachman was catching a plane to New York City at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Jan. 9, 2017. On his way through security screening, he allegedly grabbed another passenger’s Apple MacBook Pro laptop computer.

According to the Broward County Sheriff’s report, Bachman “kept it as his own after completing the screening process. The suspect then boarded Spirit Airlines flight number 80 to New York City.” The computer is worth $955, the report said.

The report said the entire incident was captured on airport surveillance video and when contacted, Bachman admitted taking the computer but insisted that he left it behind before boarding the flight.

“This claim was contrary to what was captured on surveillance video,” the report said.

If brought to Florida, Bachman will face a charge of third-degree grand theft.
