Apple's Most Powerful New Computer Costs $50,000 - Architectural Digest

If you find Apple’s new desktop computer on your loved one’s holiday wish list, you may be able to gift them a sporty sedan for less. When the brand announced a significant revamp of its Mac Pro earlier this year, the December sale date couldn’t come soon enough for those waiting patiently for the next upgrade. What wasn’t as highly anticipated is the price of the top-of-the-line model: a wallet-shredding $50,000.

Apple's all-new Mac Pro is now on sale.

The Mac Pro’s starting price—an already hefty $5,999—may still induce sticker shock considering the surprisingly low 256 gigabytes (GB) of storage in the base model. But be prepared to add one extra digit to that number for the bells and whistles. Add in all the possible customization upgrades, like 4 terabytes (TB) of storage, 1.5 TB of memory, two 32 GB graphics cards, and a lightning-fast 28-core 2.5 GHz Intel processor, and the price surges to $50,199—and that’s before tax. Luckily, all Mac Pro models include a Magic Mouse 2, a Magic Keyboard, and a charging cable in the box. An entry-level BMW 3 series will cost you about $10,000 less, at $40,750.

The American-made Mac Pro (built in Austin, Texas) was designed for professionals who need computers with superior performance, such as graphic designers, Web developers, and animators. But to accompany the state-of-the-art workstation with the recommended monitor that boasts matte nano-textured glass—the Pro Display XDR—expect to shell out $6,998, plus another $999 for a monitor stand.

Don’t forget about optional wheels to roll your Mac Pro workstation, priced at $400. At least a BMW includes those from the get-go.
